The Atlas of Square Packings: 77 of 324 Cases Proved Optimal, n=12 Case Fully Proved
ctjlewis · x · 2026-10-22
The Squares Project released the "Atlas of Square Packings", tracking best-known packings and verified lower bounds for 324 cases of packing n unit squares: 77 have proved optima, 247 remain open. The n=12 case (side 4) just received a full proof and partial formalization from community contributors. The atlas color-codes tilt angles and shade-codes full-side contacts, auto-generated from per-case record files.
