BitKindle: AI bootstraps a full C compiler from a 3,584-byte machine-code seed

Tombkeeper (Yu Yang, head of Tencent Xuanwu Lab) open-sourced BitKindle, a project that has AI replay the historical bootstrapping of compilers.
- Motivation: an AI-security thought experiment about capping AI capability. After Musk predicted AI could bypass compilation to write binaries by end of 2026, the author verified in Feb that AI could emit correct machine-code fragments, and by Sept it could directly output small complete programs.
- Bootstrap chain: AI writes a 3,584-byte machine-code assembler A0 → A1, a fuller assembler → C0, a minimal C compiler → iterative evolution into a self-hosted compiler with full C89 and partial C99 support, plus a runtime library and PE linker.
- Demo: the toolchain builds a playable Super Mario game from scratch, with an automated player completing the level.
- MIT-licensed on GitHub with full bootstrap design, walkthrough, and usage docs; the author notes the same capability means network attack tools could be built this way.
