Endless world, bounded budget: how Endless Powder streams terrain at three resolutions
sterlingcrispin · x · 2026-10-22
sterlingcrispin explains Endless Powder's endless-world engineering: the game predicts the rider's direction to queue the next terrain sections and unload past data. The world and the interactive snow patch use different resolutions, with denser geometry appearing underfoot on demand; snow interactivity is computed per-cell around the player, not across the whole surface.
The game detects the host platform's adaptive scaling and adjusts patch sizes and resolution accordingly. Half pipes range from mid-size to half a mile long; since landed tricks grant speed boosts, half pipes taper their rewards to prevent point farming while staying fun to ride.
