Topaz Video AI Ships Unencrypted Model Weights — User Runs Them Without the Suite

A Reddit user found Topaz Video AI's model weights (gaia 2 / gaia animation) cached unencrypted on macOS at /Applications/Topaz Video.app/Contents/Resources/models/coreMLCache/ganim-v1-fp16-576x672-2x-OS15-mlp. Using Codex for a quick proof of concept, they invoked the weights directly — bypassing the Topaz suite — and got results close to the official output (comparison images attached). They say they hold an official license and did this purely as a PoC, highlighting how little protection commercial closed-source apps give their local model weights.
