Fusion startup Marathon Fusion announced it demonstrated high-rate transmutation of mercury into stable gold last month, beating CERN's record by a factor of 10. Last week it also enriched isotopes in the world's most powerful plasma centrifuge, breaking a Soviet record that stood for 40 years. The company is now building a fusion reactor in San Francisco to pursue record power density.
