Chollet amplifies Bratton's 'Copernican trauma': AI is forcing humanity's next identity crisis
beffjezos · x · 2026-10-22
Google AI researcher Benjamin Bratton argues today's AI anxiety is a "Copernican trauma" — a moment when humanity discovers it isn't the center of a system it thought it ruled. He places it alongside heliocentrism, Darwinism, and neuroscience's revelation that thinking is a physiological process: the artificialization of intelligence is forcing a redefinition of what intelligence and mind actually are.
François Chollet amplified the thread, noting that shedding anthropocentric priors about intelligence causes a trauma akin to the shift from geocentrism to heliocentrism.
