Anthropic opened a research preview of Claude Duet, an app where Claude works as a proactive agent — surfacing what needs attention, completing tasks, and checking in before acting. In response, an open-source alternative has appeared: melete on GitHub.

melete is an always-on personal agent with its own computer environment: it remembers your work, keeps going while you're away, works with any model, supports MCP and self-hosting, and is built in TypeScript under Apache-2.0 (19 stars, 3,200+ commits, with evals and skills folders).
