Developer plans a solar-aware job scheduler so his homelab rides free excess power
mertdumenci · x · 2026-10-22
Developer mertdumenci complains about >30¢/kWh Bay Area rates and poor solar export credits, so he plans to build a tight-loop job scheduler that scales preemptible homelab workloads up and down based on hour-by-hour solar generation forecasts, then measures the results. He jokes that plugging in his EV to charge would derail the whole scheme, and wants to build it with Opus 5.5 as a weekend project.
