Matthias Nießner announced that Lukas Höllein successfully defended his PhD thesis on generating 3D worlds from 2D generative models. His landmark Text2Room (ICCV'23 Oral) was the first method to generate complete room-scale textured 3D scenes from text alone—lifting 2D text-to-image priors via iterative view generation, depth estimation, and mesh fusion—inspiring Ctrl-Room, LucidDreamer, WonderJourney, WorldGen and more. Höllein is now a research scientist on Apple's physical intelligence team, with recent work including WorldExplorer and IntrinsiX.
