Gradium has open-sourced Phonon, a family of on-device text-to-speech models under 50M parameters. The smallest, Phonon-31m, is just 64MB and released under Apache 2.0. According to voicearenaai, Phonon starts speaking in 7.5ms on a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with no network hop, while Gradium's cloud model Gradium-TTS already posts the lowest median time-to-first-audio (68ms) among measured cloud TTS APIs.
- Five languages, broadest inference support to date (Hugging Face Transformers, MLX-Audio, etc.)
- On-device: works offline, text never leaves the device, unlimited usage at no extra cost
- Launch partners already applying it to game characters and automotive R&D
