After PHP advisories, a WebAssembly runtime vendor lays out its security validation plan
MickeySteamboat · x · 2026-10-22
Responding to the PHP security advisories published Oct 21, 2026, a vendor running PHP on WebAssembly published its validation plan:
- Reproduce the production runtime in an isolated environment with synthetic data.
- Test request initialization, cleanup after memory failures, and state handling across repeated requests.
- Compare the existing runtime against the patched PHP release under equivalent conditions.
- Distinguish application failures, memory corruption, and unintended code execution, documenting evidence and limitations.
- Validate the update through a controlled release process before deployment.
They stress that production systems and customer data will not be used for exploit testing, and that a failed reproduction attempt won't be presented as proof of immunity. Their hunch: source code impacted but non-executable; findings will be published either way, with patching and hardening already underway.
