ICLR now requires reviewers to disclose AI use and report original self-written assessments

ICLR has enacted a new policy requiring peer reviewers to (a) disclose AI tools used to assist in writing reviews, and (b) report their original self-written assessment and any LLM interactions.
The rule targets the practice of having AI "scramble" review text for anonymity. Economist Paul Novosad, sharing it, argues this is misguided: scrambling the writing scrambles the ideas too — reviewers are invited precisely because they have good ideas and can communicate them.
