Baseten releases open-source decision models mammoth-1 (27B) and elephant-1 (9B), free for a week

Baseten, together with the BaseLabs team, has released two open-source "decision models": elephant-1 (9B) and mammoth-1 (27B), free for one week on Baseten's Model APIs. mammoth-1 claims #1 on the Jev Decision Index, while elephant-1 ties for #1 on the Artificial Analysis Decision Index. Unlike generative LLMs, decision models pick from a fixed set of options with per-option probabilities in a single call—making them cheap, fast, and calibration-measurable for tasks like routing, classification, and triage. Both models are open source and can be deployed and post-trained on Baseten.
