AI safety debate: should frontier models be more liberal, or forced to carry liability insurance?
AaronBergman18 · x · 2026-10-22
Researcher Aaron Bergman runs a multi-post argument on X about how open frontier models should be. He argues for more liberalism on some dimensions — drugs and suicide come to mind (with mixed feelings on the latter) — and even removing the FDA's drug enforcement authority, admitting he has edgier takes he won't voice.
He then self-corrects: negative externalities are not broadly fake, and if your anti-safetyism intuitions say the worst-thing-for-those-who-never-signed-up machine is fine, you should step back. His alternative: don't ban, just mandate appropriate liability insurance — which would in fact put those companies out of business.
