According to official state data compiled by economist Joseph Politano, the US tech sector keeps bleeding jobs: employment fell 17k last month and is down 69k over the past year, nearly as bad as the worst of the 2024 tech-cession. California is worse: 30k tech jobs lost in the past year alone, now 36k below pre-COVID levels. The chart shows steady declines since the 2022 peak across web search portals, streaming/social, and computer systems design, accelerating into 2026.
