Vercel's durable-harness moves coding agents to the cloud with auto-resume for month-long runs
mitsuhiko · x · 2026-10-21
Vercel launched durable-harness to run coding agent harnesses like Pi and Claude Code in the cloud. Locally, harnesses need an always-awake machine (hence the laptop-lid memes and Mac mini rush); in the cloud a VM replicates the workspace but doesn't track completed model/tool calls or resume interrupted turns.
durable-harness fixes that: agents auto-resume after failures and can run for hours, days, or months — targeting always-on personal workflows, apps like OpenWork and HanaAgent built on open-source harnesses, and engineers building their own harness products. Guillermo Rauch praised Pi for giving developers choice of model, runtime, data, skills and plugins.
