145M sessions show ChatGPT drives just 0.62% of Google's traffic — GEO is a distraction

Marie Haynes analyzed 12 months of GA4 data across 100 sites (>145M sessions) and argues "GEO is a distraction":
- ChatGPT drove just 0.62% of Google organic traffic; all LLMs combined, 0.73%
- ChatGPT visitors convert far better (13.8% vs 3.02%), yet Google still drove 96.5% of conversions — 27x more than all LLMs combined
- ChatGPT referral traffic has actually declined since GPT-5 launched in August 2025, defying exponential-growth predictions
Her takeaway: keep prioritizing Google and prepare for the agentic web (UCP, Universal Cart, WebMCP, intelligent eyewear) instead of chasing LLM citations.
