Ben Recht revisits Imperial College Report 9, the most impactful forecast of all time

In his graduate seminar on forecasting, Ben Recht revisits Imperial College's Report 9 (March 16, 2020) by Neil Ferguson's team — arguably the most impactful forecast ever. It gave point estimates without error bars: doing nothing meant 510,000 UK deaths, 'mitigation' 250,000, and aggressive 'suppression' only 20,000. The simulation had over 900 parameters, almost all unknown, yet concluded suppression was 'the only viable strategy,' driving lockdowns worldwide. Recht argues it read as an advocacy document rather than a scientific report even at the time.
