Patch bypasses skyrocket 8x this year as AI-era security scrutiny kicks in
cyb3rops · x · 2026-10-21
Security researcher Oren Yomtov reports patch bypass rates rose 8x in 2026. The good news: the timing correlates with Anthropic and OpenAI security product launches, so the increase may be defender-led — GitHub fixes later reported broken within 90 days jumped from 0.2% (2019–2025) to 1.8–2.3% after March 2026. The bad news: patches for actively exploited vulnerabilities were bypassed 4x more often, showing attackers also treat security patches as high-value vulnerability research context. In some Linux kernel areas, 10% of vulnerabilities are directly caused by patches of other vulns. Defenders must invest heavily in robust, comprehensive patching to stay ahead.
