diago: open-source tool makes coding agents answer with ASCII diagrams, not walls of text
rest_IPA · reddit · 2026-10-21
The author likes having agents (via obra/superpowers) write design docs before changing code, but the docs are usually huge markdown walls. He built diago plus an agent skill: instead of long text, the agent emits a JSON diagram spec rendered as an inline text diagram, attachable as image, with DIFF diagrams across spec versions or git revisions.
- Runs fully locally with any LLM agent that can use shell
- Same JSON spec renders to SVG/PNG
- Early stage: supports flow, sequence, and class diagrams
A live demo shows the agent explaining the example-voting-app pipeline as a clean container architecture diagram.
