Hackers used Claude and Grok to automate attacks on 400+ Latin American financial targets

Per The Information, an investigation by cybersecurity startup Straiker found a hacking group called CyberCartel used a web of AI agents powered by models from Anthropic, SpaceX and Chinese lab Moonshot AI to automate cyberattacks against more than 400 Latin American financial targets, including banks and payment apps.
It's one of the first detailed reports of cybercriminals using AI models to autonomously breach financial institutions — stealing passwords and customer data and accessing bank accounts with little human effort. The attack scales easily, potentially overwhelming defenders, and this is likely just the beginning.
