Indian Radiologist Recants AI Career Warnings, Urges Recruits Amid 15-per-Million Shortage

Indian radiologist Dr. Datta publicly apologized and walked back his earlier career advice: he and peers had discouraged students from radiology over AI fears. He now urges aspiring radiologists back into the field to avert an acute shortage.
In a video for the Indian Radiology and Imaging Association (IRIA), he argues the field is severely understaffed — India has only about 15 radiologists per million people versus 125 in the EU — and that AI will fill gaps rather than replace doctors, addressing common concerns about AI's impact on the profession.
