Reproduction flips the "Crushing Experiment": units show Fourier harmonic tuning consistent with superposition
livgorton · x · 2026-10-21
Reproducing Cammarata's Crushing Experiment, Liv Gorton observes results consistent with superposition. Plotting the crushed layer's ten units by curve orientation reveals elegant Fourier harmonic structure: units 7 and 8 tune to left-right and up-down bulges with 92-93% of tuning in the 2nd harmonic, while units 9 and 4 tune to axis-aligned and diagonal bulges at 88-89% in the 4th harmonic — measured responses closely match single-harmonic fits.
