Next Xbox Reportedly to Cost $1,200-$1,800 in 2028 as AI Devours Memory Supply

The Xbox Series X launched at $499 in 2020 and now costs $800. Per Fortune, Microsoft's next-gen console (Project Helix) targets the 2028 holidays with internal estimates of $1,200-$1,800 unless subsidized. The culprit: Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron dominate global RAM and have shifted capacity to high-bandwidth memory for Nvidia AI chips, where AI buyers pay far more — Micron already exited consumer memory last December. AI demand is inflating the entire consumer hardware supply chain.
