Deep dive: how Claude designed scorpion-toxin-binding proteins in 64 hours
机器之心 · wechat · 2026-10-21
Jiqizhixin details Anthropic's scorpion toxin protein design study: Claude ran autonomously for 24 hours after one prompt, called 12 design tools, ran 550K+ structure predictions, and produced 318,484 candidates in 64 hours. Of 211 synthesized candidates, 17 passed binding tests (7 against Cn2); top binders Cn2-B1/B2 reached single-digit nanomolar KD and appear to share a binding site with the neutralizing antibody LR. Single-toxin success rate was 18%, in line with typical protein design; the universal multi-toxin binder goal failed entirely. The piece also notes Radical Numerics' phage therapy authorized for compassionate use and OpenAI's acquisition of OrchestraBio for its Rosalind life-sciences platform.
