Claude designs 318,484 proteins in 64 hours; 17 bind scorpion toxin

Anthropic published a study with Citrini Research where an internal Claude (first author "Claude Science") designed 318,484 candidate proteins in 64 hours to bind five scorpion neurotoxins. Five analysts — three with no science background and a $200K budget — had Claude run 300+ sub-agents on 300+ GPUs, call 12 design tools, and even email Twist Bioscience about manufacturability. 211 candidates were synthesized; 17 passed binding tests covering four of five toxins, with top candidate Cn2-B1 binding slowly-dissociating at the same site as the known neutralizing antibody LR. The multi-toxin universal binder goal failed entirely, as Claude predicted. All designs and data are public on Hugging Face (CC BY 4.0); neutralization is unproven.
