Rename 'alignment' to 'loyalty'? X users debate reframing AI alignment
lumpenspace · x · 2026-10-21
lumpenspace proposes replacing the loaded term "alignment" with "loyalty": it can be split between user and lab, subsumes inner/outer alignment, and the part that matters reduces to lawfulness, loyalty, and truthseeking.
The reposter adds a historical analogy with the Manhattan Project's von Neumann, Oppenheimer, and Teller, arguing value alignment was always hard to determine and largely redundant—what mattered was loyalty. A substantive AI-circle debate on alignment terminology.
