AI-assisted phishing via fake podcast invite: days of rapport, then malware
michael_nielsen · x · 2026-10-21
Michael Nielsen amplifies a sophisticated AI-assisted phishing attempt: @beaconlayer invited a researcher onto their show, spent days discussing run-of-show with AI-generated deep knowledge of his work, then tried to get him to install malware to join the call. Unlike earlier scams posing as producers of popular shows, this one impersonated the actual show, complete with published episodes and a sizable X audience. A warning that AI makes social engineering deeper and more convincing for high-profile targets.
