New paper formalizes embodied CoT faithfulness and uses it as an RL reward signal
drmapavone · x · 2026-10-21
A new paper on embodied reasoning formally defines 'faithfulness' for robot policies — whether the embodied chain-of-thought truthfully reflects the policy's chosen action — and argues it should play an explicit role in algorithm design. The team trains a critic of embodied faithfulness that identifies signatures of inconsistent and incoherent reasoning, then uses it as a reward signal during RL post-training of a robot policy. An accompanying figure maps functionality vs. faithfulness across four quadrants, showing CoT reflection of the action-generation process is orthogonal to task performance.
