Sizing a 1 GW datacenter: ~522,000 Blackwell GPUs fit inside
bookwormengr · x · 2026-10-21
An engineer's back-of-envelope sizing of a 1 GW datacenter: 1,000 MW total power, 870 MW net IT capacity at 1.15 PUE. At 120 kW per GB200 NVL72 rack, that's roughly 7,250 racks or 522,000 Blackwell GPUs (slightly fewer in practice due to auxiliary power). Part 2 of a compute supply/demand series.
