OpenAI Acquires Orchestra Bio, Whose AI Agents Track Drug Programs
rohanpaul_ai · x · 2026-10-21
OpenAI has acquired Orchestra Bio, whose AI agents track drug development programs: they monitor studies and timelines, so when a manufacturing batch fails, they map which trials slip and compare responses for program leaders to choose.
This completes a two-layer biology stack for OpenAI: GPT-Rosalind reasons through biology and chemistry, Rosalind Workbench links models to lab tools and data, while Orchestra targets the coordination bottleneck across departments, contractors and disconnected software. Anthropic previously paid $400M in stock for Coefficient Bio in April, so both labs are buying specialist biology teams. Drug development still averages 10-15 years from target to US approval, a clock largely set by trial biology and regulators.
