Chipload: an open spec so any software or agent can read your machine shop
burhop · x · 2026-10-21
The author launched Chipload (spec v0.1.0), an open spec for describing machine shops in a single shared file. Shop knowledge is currently scattered across spreadsheets, tribal knowledge, vendor software and ERP systems, forcing every monitoring dashboard, scheduler or MES to re-enter the same data that then drifts out of date.
Key ideas: one description of the shop that every tool reads, and one vocabulary for machine status/abilities — instead of each mill brand reporting "ACTIVE", "RUNNING" or a raw register value. The project is free and open, motivated by letting design-side agents talk directly to shop-floor software.
