Google has open-sourced TorchTPU (github.com/google-pytorch/torchtpu), a native PyTorch back end for TPUs, and the project hit the Hacker News front page.
- It offers more direct native support than the traditional PyTorch/XLA path for running PyTorch on TPUs
- Developers can now train and run models on Google TPUs directly within the PyTorch ecosystem
- A notable step in lowering the barrier to TPU usage and broadening the non-CUDA hardware ecosystem
