Perplexity Computer now runs fully local on Mac, model and agent on-device
perplexity_ai · x · 2026-10-20
Perplexity announced that its Computer product can now run fully local on Mac: both the model and the agent run on-device, working with native Mac apps and local files without sending sensitive data to the cloud.
Local tasks are powered by PPLX Pro, a post-trained version of Qwen 3.8, and don't consume Computer credits. For more complex work, a Hybrid mode can split tasks between a cloud model and the local Mac model while keeping sensitive data private.
It's available now to Pro, Max, and Enterprise subscribers on supported Apple silicon Macs, with 36 GB of unified memory recommended.
