Open source isn't obsolete in the agent era, says maintainer changing how he contributes
charles_irl · x · 2026-10-20
Open source maintainer Andrew Lamb pushes back on the "open source is obsolete" take — the idea that you can loose an agent overnight and wake up to 50,000 lines of new code. His thesis: we will keep building systems by assembling libraries embodying collective wisdom, and those libraries will still be built and maintained by open source communities. He's not rage-quitting open source, but he is changing how he spends his time. Shared by charlesirl.
