Claude Desktop on Windows reportedly breaks multi-profile --user-data-dir launches after auto-update
Higor12cs · reddit · 2026-10-20
A user reports that Claude Desktop on Windows (2.42304.2.0, Microsoft Store/MSIX) appears to have changed after an auto-update: previously multiple instances could run side by side via --user-data-dir shortcuts for different accounts, but now clicking a profile shortcut just brings the default window to front—the new process exits immediately without touching the profile folder. The single-instance lock seems to apply app-wide rather than per user data dir. No workaround found yet besides closing one profile first.
