Papers with Code adds RAG-style citations: click an answer to jump to the exact PDF passage
NielsRogge · x · 2026-10-20
Niels Rogge of Hugging Face announced major improvements to the PDF reader on Papers with Code: the AI assistant now cites its sources in full RAG style, powered by Datalab's openly available Chandra-OCR 2. Besides markdown, the model returns bounding boxes, so clicking a citation scrolls the PDF to and highlights the exact passage. The feature originated from a community feature request (issue #53) noting that paper QA is hard to verify without passage-level grounding. The codebase will be open-sourced soon, and the author is soliciting further feature requests.
