Waymo's safety hub now covers 271 million driverless miles: 0.01 serious-injury crashes per million miles versus a human benchmark of 0.21 in the same areas — roughly 95% fewer. An independent IIHS study of older data (2021-2024, 50 million miles) found 81% fewer injury crashes, though Austin performed slightly worse than human drivers. Semafor reports Waymo plans to grow from 4,000 cars to 20,000 by end of 2027, funded by a $5 billion loan.
