Immich hits 116k stars: self-hosted photo library with on-device face search
alex_verem · x · 2026-10-20
Immich is a high-performance self-hosted photo and video management solution — essentially Google Photos on your own hard drive. It performs face, object and place search across your entire library locally, never sending a single photo to Google. The project now has 116k stars and 7.3k forks on GitHub.
The same thread highlights a companion approach: whisper.cpp turns hours of audio into text offline on an ordinary laptop, so meetings, interviews and voice notes never touch someone else's server either. Together they form a fully local, privacy-first personal data pipeline.
