Codex Windows desktop bug: local projects vanish from sidebar after restart (issue #55390)
crossique · ghdev · 2026-10-20
A new issue on the openai/codex repo (#55390) reports that in the unified ChatGPT/Codex Windows desktop app, local projects disappear from the left sidebar after a Windows restart, while cloud ChatGPT projects remain visible.
- The app's project-list tool still returns the affected project, and thread-list returns its chats and working directory — the data exists but the UI hides it.
- Pinning/unpinning, app relaunch, sign-out/in, and a full Windows restart all failed to restore visibility.
- Version 26.1013.31256 (build 20586) on the production channel, with the updater reporting restartrequired; whether the pending update installed is unconfirmed.
- Possibly related to #42739, #53251 and #55137, though no shared root cause is established.
