Compound launches PE Bench: 58 tasks testing AI agents as private equity analysts
peterjliu · x · 2026-10-20
Built by former private and growth equity investors, Compound's PE Bench tests whether AI agents can do a full PE analyst's job on a single live deal — diligence cuts, investment model, IC memo and deck.
Design highlights
- Each case is one deal (a take-private of a public company or diligence of a private company); all tasks reference the same deal, so the memo can be checked against the agent's own model.
- Documents are deliberately messy and realistic — legal agreements, PDF financials, a CIM — with contradictory numbers in data rooms that agents must reconcile.
- Each task gets only the short brief an analyst would receive, with a generous 1-hour time limit per task.
- Lab models are benchmarked with their own harnesses to reflect day-to-day use.
The benchmark includes 58 prompts, e.g. bridging FY25 reported results to adjusted EBITDA from a buyer's perspective, or adding a live Investment Committee case to an existing LBO model while keeping it fully linked.
