Google Cloud upgrades VPC Service Controls with folder-level perimeters for agent traffic, free

Google Cloud announced key enhancements to VPC Service Controls aimed at securing AI agent traffic. Agents are a distinct class of non-human identity with non-deterministic behavior and unprecedented request scale, straining traditional network perimeters.
Key updates:
- Folder-level perimeter membership: projects inherit policy automatically, protected from creation
- Granular exceptions with guided, scoped remediation for access denials
- Secure-by-default: data stays inside the perimeter even with compromised credentials, IAM misconfigurations, or insider threats
- Generally available at no additional cost
Developer advocate Reto Seroter highlighted it as a way to rethink network perimeters against agent traffic bursts and new attack styles.
