Landau-Siegel zeros: new paper claims OpenAI proved it, then simplifies it to an exercise
akbirthko · x · 2026-10-20
A viral paper by Kevin Barreto, "An Elementary Proof of the Non-Existence of Landau-Siegel Zeros," claims the uniform non-existence was first proved by OpenAI, with simplifications by Banks, Kerr and Green, and further simplifies Green's determinant argument via a Wronskian row-independence proof — crediting "GPT-6 Astra" for the simplification and checking. The tweeter notes a Fields-medal-grade open problem has become a textbook exercise. Unverified: the 2026 dates and "GPT-6" naming warrant caution, but if real it is a landmark for AI for Math.
