KiviDB: a faster Redis-compatible memory database and vector cache built in Rust
murtazayusuf · hn · 2026-10-19
A developer released KiviDB, a Redis-compatible in-memory database and vector cache written in Rust, built to fix GC pauses and post-snapshot memory blowups (OOM) he hit with Dragonfly.
- Supports RESP2/RESP3 and roughly 98-99% of Redis 8.10 commands
- Sharded keyspace across threads; best performance on Linux via iouring (tokiouring), with a tokio fallback for other OSes
- Core engine open sourced under AGPLv3, plus a managed cloud service spanning AWS, GCP and Azure
- Benchmarked on 2 c7gn.metal servers; the author leaned heavily on Claude for code while making all design decisions himself
