INTERPOL launches campaign warning of deepfake scams as AI erases tell-tale signs
0xkarasy · x · 2026-10-19
INTERPOL has launched a public awareness campaign on deepfake-enabled scams, featuring three AI-generated videos showing how synthetic media is used to impersonate colleagues and family. Generative tools can now convincingly clone a real person's face and voice from a small amount of online content, and attacks increasingly target private citizens via investment scams, romance scams, sextortion and disinformation. INTERPOL Innovation Centre director Toshinobu Yasuhira notes AI is erasing classic scam red flags. Advice: slow down, call back on a known number, set up safewords with close contacts, and enable 2FA everywhere.
