Zhejiang University survey frames smart glasses as first-person intelligence platforms with L0-L5 scale
机器之心 · wechat · 2026-10-19
A survey from Zhejiang University's APRIL Lab, "From Seeing to Acting: Smart Glasses as First-Person Intelligence Platforms" (arXiv, with an open GitHub repo), repositions smart glasses from camera/assistant accessories into first-person intelligence platforms linking perception, persistent memory, and action.
- Eight verifiable hardware axes (egocentric vision, audio, spatial/motion sensing, near-eye display, hands-free control, compute/connectivity, reproducible data interfaces, deployment/trust) turn vague product labels into evaluable system conditions; capability progress tracks neither sensor count nor display complexity.
- Seven core capabilities and an L0-L5 framework: from recording (L0) and reactive sensing (L1) to persistent state (L3), controlled action (L4), and embodied coupling (L5).
- Nine application scenarios and a nine-dimension deployment framework, plus a claim-conditioned evaluation protocol, deployment checklist, and evidence ladder from lab measurements to privacy audits.
- Concludes with 8 open challenges and 6 roadmap directions. Lead and corresponding author: Jiangning Zhang; co-first author Haojun Chen.
