Why AI labs prefer non-exclusive training data: same lift, much cheaper
menhguin · x · 2026-10-19
A short take on the training-data market: labs' equilibrium strategy is to buy mostly non-exclusive data, because exclusive and non-exclusive data deliver roughly the same training lift, while vendors charge far less for non-exclusive rights since they can aggregate revenue by licensing the same data to many labs. This explains why labs have little incentive to chase exclusivity.
