Open-source WhatsApp MCP server with scoped tokens, read-only default, local transcription
Bodokh · reddit · 2026-10-19
A developer built My WhatsApp MCP, a local WhatsApp archive + MCP server in Go that fixes the common problem of giving AI clients full read/write access to your message history:
- Scoped MCP access: each client (Claude Code, Codex, etc.) gets its own token, allowed chats, date range and expiry; connections start read-only
- Separate send permissions: read-only, send-to-selected-chats, or full send within read scope (text, attachments, voice)
- Search with context in English and Hebrew, no LLM or Python needed for basic archive/search
- Attachment search by filename, type, caption (8 MiB per doc, experimental)
- Optional local voice transcription via faster-whisper INT8 on CPU with multilingual detection and a Hebrew profile
- Local dashboard for managing scopes, plus a demo mode on synthetic data
Caveats: unofficial whatsmeow library via QR linking; SQLite stored unencrypted (use disk encryption). The author hosts it publicly via Cloudflare Zero Trust for a static MCP URL. Open-sourced on GitHub.
