One refusals at a time: user says Claude's automated safety checks make the product unusable
DubaiInJuly · reddit · 2026-10-19
A Reddit user details two incidents where Claude (Opus 5.5 in Claude Code) was blocked by "automated safety checks": first, Claude itself misdescribed the project in a prompt, tripped the check, admitted its mistake but refused to retry on grounds it would be circumventing safety; second, it helped extract data from a corrupted drive but refused to scan for the user's seed phrase ($8,000 in crypto), even while agreeing the files were his. The user says such refusals are now almost daily, his partial-refund request was denied, and argues that when Claude agrees a use case is benign yet still refuses, the product feels indistinguishable from a scam — sparking debate over over-broad guardrails for paying customers.
