A Week With Cline After Claude Code and Codex: Switching Was Painless
No_Collection9150 · reddit · 2026-10-19
After months of daily use of Claude Code and Codex, the author spent a week in Cline and shares first-hand notes.
- Near-zero migration cost: old Codex and Claude Code conversations carried over, no new API key needed — pointing it at an existing Codex subscription just worked; Sonnet via Cline's own account also tested.
- Real task: merging two side projects, a long "read both repos, plan only" prompt accidentally sent in act mode still produced only a plan; after that, mostly typing "continue working" while it executed — at one point it spun up subagents for different files autonomously.
- Still early days, but the switch was far less painful than expected; the author asks others what made them stay or go back.
